Why is Questioning in the Classroom Important?

Using Bloom's Taxonomy to make a lesson plan helps teachers make the lesson more rigorous. One of the things that can help make lessons more meaningful. For example, if a teacher were to simply ask a "question" and then answer it for the students, what do the students gain from that. Most of the time, students won't even think about the question because the teacher will have answered it for them. Asking the students WHY will get them more envolved, and it will require them to actually think about the question. When teachers do not use questioning while teaching their lessons, how will they actually know that the students are listening? How will the teacher know for sure that the student gained anything what-so-ever from the lesson? Questioning the students periodically throughout the lesson will assure teachers that they are learning the information, or it will prove to the teacher that the students need more work on the subject.
