Self-esteem is the way that a person views themselves, and how much confidence they have towards themselves. Kids spend the majority of their time in school for the early stages of their childhood, and the way kids view themselves is based off of how others view them, so it is really important for a teacher to boost kids self-esteem. For example, if a teacher believes in the child, and believes that that child can accomplish a difficult task, then the child will also believe that they can accomplish that task. In order to learn, a child must feel like he CAN learn, and that all depends on how much confidence he has in himself. For instance, if a student says "I can't do math, I'm no good at it" then that student will probably not be able to do math, because that student will be going into the class with the mindset that he is already going to fail. And a teacher can easily fix it. A teacher should make the student feel like he CAN learn math, that after believing he can do it, he will improve in math. So, one of the biggest things I learned about self-esteem in learning is the huge role that teachers play in the development of self-esteem.

You've hit on a compelling point--that teachers must make students believe they CAN learn. That's what the "growth mindset" is all about, believing that with hard work, you can learn and achieve. How, specifically, do you think a teacher could cultivate a growth mindset in students?
